The Cols

Day #5 - Camp Nelson to Three Rivers

Recipe for a crispy cyclist. Ingredients:

  • 1 cyclist
  • Campsite in the woods
  • 1 hot valley (at least 105F/40C)

Preparation: Let the cyclist tenderize over the night at the campsite. The higher the better such that he/she gets tired and oversleeps. The longer it lasts the hotter the valley gets! If he manages to leave the camp around 8am and descends fast enough, make him climb some hill - the cyclist needs to be gradually heated up. Just then make him descend into 105*F and let him stay there for the rest of the day. 😅

Jokes aside I find it incredible how 2000 meters of elevation drop and approximately 50km make such a huge difference in the terrain and climate! From luscious green forests to dry and lifeless hills in a split second. Looking forward to Sequoia National Park tomorrow - hopefully it will be cooler up there.
