Day #11 - Pinecrest to Sonora Pass
Sonora Pass was savage. In theory its reasonable ~7% climb over 15km so nothing too bad but this is far from reality. Averages lie! The very first km is almost 13% average with some kickers easily reaching 16/17%. It would have been hard without 12kg worth of gear… I had to stop 3 times after sections like that because of the overall legs and lungs burn. 😅 I don’t feel defeated though - not a single step was taken, entire climb by bike. Gorgeous views and amazing landscapes. Still plenty of snow. I actually ended up hanging around for an hour on top of the pass with some guys who were done skitouring. Declined their beer but gladly accepted bag of tortilla chips. 😃
I spend the night relatively high up because at ~2k meters but boooy was it cold. Like 2*C at 6am cold. I didn’t expect that from the land bordering Nevada.
Just a guy touring on his bike across the world and getting progressively broke. Should you wish to help me out and fuel few kilometers of my ride please paypal.me/MPaluchowski. Any sort of help is greatly appreciated.
